Urine removal

Mattress urine cleaning: enzymatic treatment and odor elimination

Urine penetrates to the mattress core, breeding bacteria and producing persistent odor. Home remedies don't reach the inside. Here's what actually works.

The problem

Why is urine in a mattress so hard to remove?

Urine doesn't stay on the surface. It passes through the layers of fabric and foam and accumulates inside the mattress. As it dries, uric acid crystallizes and bonds to the fibers. Those crystals are responsible for the persistent smell: whenever there's ambient humidity or night sweat, they reactivate and the odor returns.

Uric acid crystallizes as it dries, that's why the smell returns when there's humidity
Cleaning only the surface doesn't help: the urine is already in the inner layers
Bleach sets urine stains instead of removing them, it's the worst thing you can use
Baking soda absorbs surface moisture but doesn't break down uric acid inside
Without specific enzymes and professional extraction, the odor always comes back
When you need it

When is it worth calling a professional?

Not every urine stain needs professional intervention. But there are situations where home remedies simply won't work.

The smell returns every time there's humidity or heat, even though the stain is gone
You've tried baking soda, vinegar, or store-bought products and the odor persists
The urine has been in the mattress for more than 48 hours
It's cat urine, it needs specific enzymes due to its high concentration
There are multiple urine stains accumulated over time
You want to restore the mattress for a child, family member, or to sell it
How it works

How we remove urine from mattresses

Enzymatic protocol in 3 steps

1

UV light diagnosis

We inspect the mattress with ultraviolet light to locate all affected areas. Often there are old urine stains invisible to the naked eye that are still producing odor.

2

Enzymatic treatment

We apply professional enzymatic solution that breaks down uric acid at the molecular level. The enzymes destroy the crystals causing the odor. It's not a fragrance that masks it, it's a chemical reaction that eliminates it.

3

Extraction and deodorization

With injection-extraction equipment, we pull the dissolved urine out from inside the mattress. Dark water comes out with everything that was accumulated. Then we apply deodorizing treatment to neutralize any residue.

Why professional

Why don't home remedies work?

Baking soda absorbs surface moisture but doesn't reach the uric acid crystals inside the mattress
Vinegar masks the smell temporarily but doesn't break down uric acid, once it dries, the odor returns
Store-bought sprays are fragrances that cover the smell for hours, not eliminate it
Without an extraction machine, you can't pull urine from the inside, you just dilute and spread it
Professional enzymes that break down uric acid aren't sold in regular stores
The result

What results to expect for your case

Recent urine (less than 24h): complete removal of stain and odor in virtually all cases
Urine from a few days: odor eliminated and stain nearly fully removed
Old urine (weeks/months): odor neutralized, stain significantly reduced, possible residual shadow
Repeated urine in the same area: odor eliminated, stain improved but slight discoloration may remain
Cat urine: odor eliminated with specific enzymes, but severe cases may need double treatment
In all cases, the mattress is left hygienic and free of bacteria associated with urine

Honest results

Odor is completely eliminated in the vast majority of cases, even with old urine. That's where enzymatic treatment makes the biggest difference. Visible stains depend on age and repetition: recent urine leaves no trace. Old or repeated urine in the same area may leave faint discoloration on light fabrics, even though the odor is fully neutralized. We tell you before we start.

Services

Urine situations we treat

Each case has its difficulty level

Children's urine (bedwetting)

The most common case. Could be a one-time incident or months of nighttime accidents. The sooner treated, the better the result. Children's mattresses often have multiple affected areas.

Pet urine

Cat urine is the hardest due to its high uric acid concentration. Dog urine is easier to treat. In both cases, enzymatic treatment is essential.

Elderly incontinence

Incontinence or accidents. No judgment. It's a common problem with a professional solution. We treat the mattress and recommend protection to prevent future episodes.

Recent urine (less than 24h)

Best-case scenario. If the urine is fresh, removal is virtually complete: stain and odor. Don't try to dry it with a hairdryer, heat sets the stain.

Old urine (weeks or months)

Harder but treatable. The uric acid has already crystallized and the stain has oxidized. Odor is eliminated; the stain reduces significantly but may leave a faint shadow.

Repeated urine in the same area

The most complex case. Layers of accumulated urine. Enzymatic treatment reaches the inside, but surface stains on light fabric may not disappear 100%.

FAQ

FAQ about urine in mattresses

Does baking soda work for removing urine from a mattress?
Only superficially. Baking soda absorbs moisture and reduces some odor on the surface, but it doesn't break down the uric acid inside the mattress. That's why the smell comes back. It's first aid, not a solution.
What about vinegar?
Vinegar neutralizes some of the ammonia in fresh urine and can reduce the smell for a few hours. But it doesn't reach inside the mattress or break down uric acid crystals. When it dries, the odor returns.
Why does the urine smell come back even when the stain is gone?
Because the crystallized uric acid is inside the mattress, not on the surface. Ambient humidity and night sweat reactivate those crystals and release the odor. Only enzymatic treatment that reaches the interior solves it.
Is it safe for children and pets after treatment?
Yes. The enzymatic products we use are biodegradable and leave no toxic residue. Once the mattress is dry (4-6 hours), it's completely safe for children, babies, and pets.
How long does the mattress take to dry?
Between 4 and 6 hours with normal ventilation. We extract maximum water with the machine. If you point a fan at the mattress, it can be ready in 3-4 hours. If treated in the morning, you sleep on it that night.
Should I buy a mattress protector afterward?
Absolutely. A waterproof breathable protector (15-30 euros) prevents future accidents from reaching the mattress. It's the most cost-effective investment you can make after a professional cleaning.
